How Playnook works

Five short chapters. No jargon, no homework, no guilt. Just a calm loop of plan, play, and learn that fits real family life.

1

Tell us about your child

Setup takes about two minutes and feels like chatting with a friend who gets it. What does your child love, water, movement, music, building? What do they avoid, loud sounds, messy hands, sitting still? What would you like to work on together, from fine motor to communication to calm? A nickname is fine, an age band is enough, and diagnosis info is completely optional. Playnook plans from preferences, not from labels, so it works for every kind of kid from day one.

2

Get your weekly plan

Every week Playnook lays out a small, doable set of activities matched to your child. Each one uses everyday items, cups, rice, clothespins, pillows, and takes 5 to 15 minutes. Each card tells you what you need, how to do it in three or four steps, and why this one fits your child. The plan leans on what already works, sprinkles in something new, and never overloads you. Skip a day? Nothing breaks. The plan bends around your life, not the other way round.

3

Log in seconds

This is the whole job: tap start when play begins, tap stop when it ends, then pick one of four faces, loved it, okay, resisted, refused. Add a note or a photo if you feel like it, or don't. Five seconds, honestly. There are no scores to enter and no forms to fill. And when your child refuses an activity, that gets logged too, gently. A refusal is information, never a failure, and the plan quietly adjusts around it.

4

Read the dashboard

Those tiny logs add up to something powerful: a clear picture of your child's engagement. Preference bands show which activities hold attention for 14 minutes and which fade at 2. Trends show whether a new activity is growing on them. Patterns surface on their own, like mornings working better than evenings, or sit-down play lasting twice as long after movement. You can share a clean one-page summary with anyone on your child's team in one tap.

5

The blend

Here is the part we are proudest of. When the dashboard shows an activity your child avoids, Playnook looks for one they love that can carry it. Drawing lasts 2 minutes at the table? Try bath crayons during water play, and suddenly it is 8. Playnook suggests the blend, tracks each attempt, and shows you the trend line rising. When the avoided activity grows strong inside the loved one, you try it on its own again. Small doses, big patience, real growth.

The idea behind the blend

Kids, like all of us, do hard things more willingly when they come wrapped in things they enjoy. Pairing means putting the hard thing right next to the fun thing so the good feelings rub off. There is also an old, well-tested idea that a favorite activity can act as a reward for a less favorite one, sometimes called the Premack principle, or "first this, then that". These are long-standing techniques drawn from pediatric occupational and behavioral practice. Playnook simply makes them easy to run at home.

Plain and important: Playnook is an activity planning and observation tool for parents. It does not diagnose or treat anything, and it never replaces professional care.
